views from the other side
On June 13, 2026, a giant flag appeared on our studio building in Ellenville, NY – covering the windows in the lobby on our floor and the one above. At first we were alarmed, thinking it would block light to our abundant plants and the view of the Shawangunk Ridge.
Instead, surprise! We loved the flag! It cast a diffused, warm light, giving the room a gentle glow. We could watch it sway in the wind, exposing the village below. Or its stripes interacting with the blinds, causing an unintended graphic animation.
We decided to record the flag’s time on the building from our 4th floor perspective – and will periodically live stream the view from our lobby – the view from the other side.
While you stream the day’s recording, we invite you to think about flags and their function, how the weather affects large pieces of fabric, art in small towns, this country's future, and anything else that comes to mind.
